Fibre Planning & Installation Engineer

Job Overview:

Commsworld is looking for a multi-skilled individual to join its Fibre Infrastructure team in Edinburgh. The successful candidate will be principally responsible for surveying and planning new fibre network and customer connections but will also be asked to assist with installation activities such as cabling, fibre blowing and splicing.

Commsworld is looking for candidates who are willing to learn fibre network planning skills, who are IT literate and capable of building sometimes complex engineering designs. Ideal candidates will have a number of years of experience in a similar or closely related engineering role. The successful candidate will be extensively trained over a 6-12 month period on Fibre Network planning, design principles and best-practice in numerous engineering disciplines involved with the job.

Day-to-day Responsibilities:

  • Carry out surveys for planning Spine Network in the Public Highway and internal cabling Customer Connections
    • Produce Documentation for Contractor (Civils, subduct, spine cable)
    • Produce Documentation for Installation Team (Internal route, Straight-Line-Diagram for fibre splicing)
    • Produce Route Approval Packs
  • Manage Openreach PIA Process
    • Raise / Edit / Delete Notices Of Intent (NOIs)
    • Assist Assurance colleagues with submission of Missing Inventory Cases, Defects, Blockages found on Openreach network.
  • Liaise with contractors to ensure network is constructed to plan and manage any required deviations from plan
  • Supervise and assist Install Team with customer connections in the field.

Required Skills:

  • High level of general IT proficiency
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Health & Safety Awareness (H&S accreditations/qualifications welcome)
  • Full Drivers License

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with technical drawing (CAD, GIS, Visio etc)
  • New Roads & Street Works Act (NRSWA) Operative or Supervisor Accreditation
  • Openreach PIA Accreditation

Both NRSWA and PIA Accreditations are a requirement of the role, but Commsworld will put the successful candidate through the required courses if they do not already have the credentials.

Expected Salary:

£30-40k based on experience
