Fibre Infrastructure Engineer
Location: Edinburgh
Salary: Dependant on experience
The Fibre Infrastructure Engineer will play a key role within the Infrastructure Team. They will be involved in all aspects of Fibre Network Build, from Test Roding and Roping of duct networks, Internal Cabling, Fibre Splicing, Fibre Testing and Fault Finding. The successful candidate must have experience in one or more of the key skills.
Key Responsibilities for Fibre Cabling activities
- Route proving of underground duct within Openreach Network and Commsworld Network.
- Installation of optical fibre cables within the Openreach Network to the Openreach standards.
- Test Rod and rope Openreach duct network to PIA standards
- Installation of blown fibre tubing, optical fibre cable, bundles and blown fibre using fibre-blowing equipment to required standards
- Ability to read and follow site drawings
- The knowledge and skill to be able to install a fibre from point of entry to the comms room
- Client-driven with proactive approach
- Good Communication Skills
- Work as part of a team
- Ability to work safely at all times
- Build a network to the expected quality standards
Key Responsibilities for Fibre Splicing Activities
Main duties & responsibilities:
- Fusion Spicing – Fujikura 70s or similar
- Live network splicing
- New Build, Internal and External (Building new splice points using various joint clousures and Optical distribution frames)
- Splice OBF, Trays and BFP’s
- Ability to splice from 2 Fibre to 288 Fibre
- OTDR /ILM
- Produce fibre test results
- Be able to analyse the trace results to pinpoint any problems
Reporting
- Read and understand Visio straight line diagrams
- Understand written work instructions on MS word / Excel
Technical skills required
- 2 year working experience with Fibre optics products
- OTDR Experience
- Fusion splicing
- Worked on a live network for 2 years or more
Skills and Experience for the role
- PIA Accreditation
- Ability to produce, update and interpret records of daily work logs and data recordings.
- Adhere to all Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental policies.
- Represent the company in a professional manner
- Work as part of a team to deliver client commitments
- Be flexible in your approach to working hours
- Full UK Driving Licence
- MS Office - Excel, Word
