With offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh, Brechin Tindal Oatts has established an excellent resource of legal expertise advising on a wide range of corporate, commercial and personal matters. They provide a service tailored to meet any individual needs.
Their ability to anticipate and act promptly on client requirements led to the establishment of their Employment Law Consultancy, which provides a specialist employment law service to the legal and other professions. Their Intellectual Property Consultancy specialises in ecommerce, intellectual property, information technology and data protection law.
The Challenge
Brechin Tindal Oatts wanted to have a local presence in both Glasgow and Edinburgh but didn’t necessarily want to have to double up on resources such as the operator staff or voicemail services.
There were a lot of inter-office calls and although they wanted to keep costs to a minimum they did not want to jeopardise the high level of service provided to their clients.
Commsworld supplied and installed a telephone system in Glasgow and Edinburgh to facilitate local telephony features, and installed a 2-Megabit circuit from Thus between the two sites to “link” them together.
The link allows the two systems to act as one and allows Brechin Tindal Oatts to share resources by linking the sites together with a data circuit along with Voice over IP (VoIP) over the Siemens HG1500 IP card.
Detail of Solution
Commsworld proposed to install a Siemens HiPath telephone system in Glasgow and Edinburgh offices and link the two sites using the Siemens HG1500 IP card and a 2-Mbit leased line from Thus.
This allows the two HiPath systems to run independently with their own ISDN lines and DDI numbers but also allows the two systems to be linked together as if they were one system allowing inter-office calls at no cost and shared operator facilities such as allowing Glasgow to answer calls for Edinburgh should the staff not be available and centralised Voicemail, which meant that they wouldn’t need a voicemail system in place at both sites.
Using Siemens own proprietary signalling between the the two systems means that there is feature transparency and all the extensions work as if they were in the same building albeit that they are geographically separated.
The Results
The client already had a Siemens system in place and with Siemens backward compatibility we were able to upgrade the software to the latest level meaning that they did not have to invest in a completely new system saving many thousands of pounds.
Why did they chose Commsworld
Our solution was based on a “one-stop” basis, where the client could come to Commsworld and we would be able to deal with every aspect of the project:
-
The supply of the incoming ISDN lines from BT at both sites
-
Providing the Thus 2-MBit circuit between the sites
-
Internal cabling for the voice and data in both sites
-
The provision of the telephone hardware and software, the handsets and voicemail equipment.
Add to this full project management, training and ongoing service the client felt that having one company look after everything was so much easier than having potential problems caused by “too many cooks”.
