Riots burned my building, but did not stop me trading!

Reeves Furniture Store, Croydon

The recent riots that have visited the streets of London, Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham have caused mayhem and destruction to businesses, property and possessions on an unprecedented scale. The most visible disaster unfolding before our very eyes on the 24 hour news channels was the burning to the ground of the “Reeves of London” furniture store; a family run business in Croydon that has traded for five generations since the 1860’s. Their business was torched and destroyed in a matter of hours on Monday 8th August.

I am fairly certain that prior to this date, they did not envisage their business being attacked in such a manner and with such devastating consequences; they along with many other hundreds of business owners.  It may well be that a business owners premises was spared, however the business next to them may be damaged or unsafe and as such, business owners and their staff cannot get access to their property.  The question now is… regardless of whether they have a building, a business or whatever, how do their customers contact them?  How can they continue to trade?

They may not have premises, but with some Disaster Recovery planning and the implementation of some simple and inexpensive solutions, they could be back up and running, trading, and contactable, seamlessly and instantaneously.

There are many solutions available for Disaster Recovery planning.  One of the simplest solutions to implement is Inbound Services.  In the event of a disaster, Inbound Services would allow any business to have calls answered at any location such as a home, a garage, another office, a friend’s warehouse etc; and for calls to be routed to any number - landline or mobile.  This can be done by simple activation using a web browser from anywhere; or it can be activated automatically should there be loss of service, utilizing a pre-determined course of action.  Inbound services come in a range of guises, and range from Non Geographic Numbers, Geographic Numbers utilizing inbound platforms, or by adoption of SIP technologies.

Any business can be caught out by events out with their control; however it is worth planning now to make sure that a Disaster... is not a total disaster signaling the death of your business.
